About the Item

Unique wall plaque depicting Madonna and Child. Over the past decade or two we have seen and sold many works of religious art, but we never before had the pleasure of offering such a unique and all handcrafted piece out of glazed terracotta. To have found a piece of this size, this great shape and in this beautiful condition more than made our day. It must have taken one highly skilled artist many days if not weeks to design and execute this highly sculptural and meaningful piece. The border is decorated with an abundance of wonderful flowers and the sculptures of Mary and the child Jesus too are in deep relief. In this unique piece Mother Mary is depicted standing on a crescent moon, signifying her glory and victory over time and space. With the heavenly sky-like color behind her this meaningful sculpture also looks a bit like an apparition. Finally. both Mary and Jesus are crowned with a golden halo and they too stand out beautifully against the blue and white.
