About the Item

Bas-relief depicting the "Ascension of Christ" circle of Cesar Bagard (1620-1707) , Baroque, Walnut, Wood, second half 17th century The relief shows a Christ ascending to heaven surrounded by angels (cherubs and putti) in the clouds. On the ground are the praying apostles with Mary and some other female disciples in their midst. In the place where Christ stood, we see his footprints. The carving is made of walnut and of high quality. (29 figures in total) . The thick walnut panel shows some shallow cracks and there are some damages to the carvings, including right hand Christ. The work can be dated to the second half of the 17th century.

Tableau consisting of twelf Dutch tiles depicting the Baptism of Jezus by Saint John in the river Jordan, a castle behind. The twelf tiles are carefully painted in a manganese color wich was very much 'en vogue' around 1800. Judging by the spiral shaped side decorations the tableau was executed around 1800. (this type of spirals where used since the classical infuences in the end of the 18th century) However the style of the painting goes back to the Dutch school of the 17th century. Especially the castle shows influences of Dutch painters as Jan van Goyen (1596-1656). Above the head of Jesus is a dove, symbol of the Holy Ghost.
