About the Item
Antique 19th Century folding english medical or veterinary bloodletting bleeder fleam also known as phlebotomy, was a common medical practice for centuries, believed to cure a wide range of ailments by removing 'bad humors' from the body. While primarily associated with human medicine, the practice was also extended to animals, particularly livestock and horses, by veterinarians. Fleams were specialized tools designed for this purpose, featuring sharp blades to make precise incisions for blood removal.
This particular set appears to be a collection of veterinary
fleams, likely from the Victorian era, given the brass handles and
the style of the blades. Such tools are now considered historical
artifacts, offering a glimpse into past veterinary practices and
the evolution of medical treatments. They are sought after by
collectors of medical antiques and veterinary memorabilia. Overall in very good condition shown in the photos and video.
