About the Item

Wonderful antique French mercury barometer. Louis XVI ormolu style with elaborate cast bronze leaves and polychrome paint. Features a large squirrel tail thermometer and decorative set hand. Scales are printed in French with outer scale metric and inner scale 'Paris Inch' - an official scale in use since Charlemagne (used for 1000 years), favored by Continental scientists until the (French) metric system became more widespread. Reaumur units on thermometer scale. Great working and overall condition. Local pickup preferred, otherwise mercury will be removed for shipping. Refilling will be buyers responsibility.
