An oak cased brass pantograph by Thomas Dunn of 50 North Hanover Street, Edinburgh. Circa 1845. Numbered: 402 Interior of the case has trade label: THOMAS DUNN, OPTICIAN, MATHEMATICAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL INSTRUMENT MAKER, 50 NORTH HANOVER STREET.EDINBURGH. The interior also has a handwritten note inside the lid with the "Rule for setting Dunn's improved pantograph", dated "27 February 1845". see the photograph of note for the equations needed to be used for the settings. Dimensions of case: Height: 14.5 cm 5.75 in Width: 90 cm 35.5 in Depth: 24 cm 9.5 in Literature: G Clinton, Directory of British Scientific Instrument Makers, 1550-1851, London, 1995, p.90. Post Office Edinburgh Leith directory, 1846-1847. p. 445. "Dunn's improved Pantograph. T.D. solicits an examination of this Instrument, by Civil Engineers, Surveyors, Engravers, Lithographic Draughtsmen, &c.; confident it will be found to be the most complete, delicate, and simple Instrument yet made for copying, enlarging, or reducing drawings of every kind."
