About the Item

Weight of the 18th century. Bronze. Bronze weight, incomplete, with the container glass and two of the smallest, all decorated in cold with incised and patterned motifs, simple edges in the small vessels and more complex valances in the container glass. The weights of nested vessels are a set of weights in the form of a cup or a glass, which all fit precisely into each other. Whole preserves all original vessels is considered a complete set. The largest, called a keeper, consists of an upper lid with a handle and closure, and weighs exactly the same as the sum of all the others. The second in decreasing order weighs half as much as the keeper, and the same as the sum of the rest. This proportionality is maintained until the last weight, called disk or last piece, which is usually solid and closes the game. This principle will remain unchanged until the introduction of the metric system." • Size: 11 x 12 x 12 cms. Weight is merely orientative.
