Large 19th Century Black Forest Thermometer Barometer combo featuring mounted in a wooden case, intricately hand-carved with a crowned face above the barometer, and beneath a buttress supporting a flaming urn. Barometer is framed by a holly wreath and clock body houses thermometer bordered by foliage in relief. Thermometer segment is supported by a meandrous emblazoned buttress festooned with a garland and finished with a ribbon in relief.
Such a piece would have been a prized household object, especially for those interested in weather patterns. It represented a blend of practical utility and artistic design typical of Black Forest craftmanship. Wonderful dark, rich patina. The size makes it a unique statement piece in any room.
