About the Item

Set of 28 Geometric Bakelite Bauhaus Science Classroom Crystal Models, Prague, 1930s Exceptional and rare set of twenty-eight geometric crystal models from a Czech science classroom, dating from the early 1930s. Each form is precisely crafted in glossy black Bakelite with sharply defined white edges, illustrating the geometric perfection of natural crystal structures. Originally used as educational tools in physics and mineralogy departments, these models helped students visualize the symmetry and proportions of crystal systems — a fascinating intersection of science, craftsmanship, and modernist aesthetics. Several models still retain their original numbered tags, further confirming their authentic classroom use and period origin. Today, the collection stands as a striking sculptural ensemble that resonates with the visual language of Bauhaus and Constructivism. Their angular silhouettes, deep black tone, and crisp white outlines give them a timeless, architectural quality that bridges scientific study and abstract art. The set can be arranged in countless compositions — scattered, aligned, or vertically stacked — forming dynamic and graphic displays. All 28 models are preserved in very good original condition, with minor wear consistent with age and educational use.
