About the Item
English travelling apothecary made of mahogany Sipo mahogany (Entandrophragma utile) and brass with a rectangular base, a front drawer, an opening top and U-shaped metal handles. The top is protected by the lid and is divided into compartments with nine smaller bottles, six larger bottles (one chipped) and some scientific glasses to be assembled with their brass support. Inside the lid is an opening pocket for documents. The lower part of the chest is a drawer, secured during travel by a long brass needle that acts as a stopper. This is also divided into compartments containing a removable scale with weights, a mortar and pestle, a graduated glass apothecary jug, a glass measuring cup. Great Britain, late 18th century.
