About the Item

An extensive collection of fly fishing flies and ephemera owned by a Robert Thornton of Stapleton. Including Salmon flies used on the river Tees, a leather bound vellum wallet of examples with inscribed date 1856, a similar wallet of fishing wire, with log of salmon caught on the Tees from 1859 to 1862 by Robert, two letters relating to flies, one with attached fly and description of its use and construction. Approx 127 Flys and 6 lines, age related wear and discolouration. Larger Line Pouch 18/12/3.5cm (when closed) Smaller Fly Pouch 16/10/2.5cm (when closed)
