About the Item
Deer Lodge Prison horsehair bridle. Made by one of the prison inmates. 3'4" reins ending in 26" cord plus flapper. Stag rosettes on nose band. Running dog rosettes on brow band. Double round cheek bands, flat hitched brow and nose band. Colorful with colors of red, pink, green and black, knots and tassels. The bit is a non-descript prison bit. This piece has been in one family for three generations. Slightly used but one would not notice. Has been well taken care of. Note included reads "This Arabic horsehair bridle was given to my stepfather, Gordon Norris Griggs 1930-2017 by his grandfather Norris Griggs who supplied the horsehair from his roach in Big Pines, WY. Was made in one of the prisons by inmates 1930-40s." Standard size.
