A kaleidoscope of color carving through the waves, that's what we think of when we look at this traditional Dewey Weber Ski Surfboard. Red and blue paint artistically splattered creating a decorative explosion on the bottom and wonderful accents on the deck. This is a Transitional surfboard, it was created during the exploratory times of the late 1960s and the birthing period of the Short Board Revolution. It exemplifies a merging of styles and experiments. Ski emblazoned on the deck, stands for Synthetic Kinetic Instinct. Surfboard enthusiasts will enjoy knowing that this board presented one of the first planing hulls of the transition era. The design introduced smoothness to the ride and invited the use of more power by the rider allowing for sharper turns. Dewy Weber manufactured this board, and credits Nat Young with its design. Nat can be seen in his glory carving the water with innovative glides and turns while riding a board like this in cult surf film Morning of the Earth. We offer here an original surfboard from the early production run, which only lasted a few years. The SKI model was reintroduced as part of the Weber Retro Line in 2006, at that time it was the most highly requested model not in production. Loaded with original color, a vibrant acid splash bottom and psychedelic deck this board screams of the period. It measures 7 feet, 4 inches long, 4 inches thick. It is sold complete with an original removable fin that has seduced us with it's remarkable likeness to a firm slice of Gummy Jello. Board depth is 8.5 inches with fin in place. Known as The Little Man on Wheels Dewey Weber's diminutive stature, low centre of gravity and his natural abilities made him the ultimate hot-dogger and a state champion wrestler. Weber's first visit to Hawaii is chronicled in Bud Browne's 1957 release, The Big Surf. He went on to appear in nearly every surf movie of the late 1950s and 1960s. In 1960, he founded the still reining Weber Surfboards and opened his first shop in Venice Beach, California. Nat Young's escapades in surfing are featured in Nat's, Nat and That's That - World Champion surfer and surf legend he brought Australian surfing to the forefront and paved the way for the Aussie Invasion of Surfing.
