Smooth Face Gibson Niblick,Skoogee.
A smooth concave faced niblick by William Gibson
Co, Kinghorn, Fife. The heavy weighted hickory shafted niblick (sand wedge) golf club with deep flange, original shaft with polished leather grip and stamped 'Gibson's Star A'. The base of the flange stamped 'Made In Scotland, hand forged, Gibsons of Kinghorn, "The Skoogee" NIBLICK' with Gibson's 'DEEP STRUCK STAR' cleek mark.
The measurements shown are the length of the shaft with hosel and the width and depth of the face.
Gibson's 'OUTLINE STAR' cleek mark was registered in 1906, although it had been used since Gibson began his business in the 1890's and was replaced with the 'DEEP STRUCK STAR' in the 1930's.
Concave wedges like this were short lived, as the USGA outlawed them January 7, 1931.
