From the tip of it's scooped out nose to the bottom of It's pintail to its cut out cats eyes channels to its sexy black rails this 1965 Miki Dora "DaCat" screams I'm different! This unique has a beautiful re-pigmented acid splash nose, striking blue pin striping and a brilliantly designed removable fin. The Noll/DaCat logo is original and shows clear and vibrant. Rare and highly collectible this surfboard would look wonderful in any collection or as a stand alone piece of art. In the early days of surfing every Surfboard manufacturer wanted one thing a Micki Dora model surfboard! Dora turned them all down, finally approaching Greg Noll with the proviso that if they go ahead his signature model must be different then any other board made. The subsequent full page ads in Surfer Magazine feature the legendary Miki Dora portrayed as The Red Baron (iron cross and all), A Beat poet and Big Game Hunter to name a few. As a product of the age, DaCat was the Batmobile of Surfboards and Miki Dora was the the Bukowski, Kerouac, Thomas Crown of Surfing. The Poet Jewel Thief. Fueled by an inner drive that made him "The King of Malibu", Dora simultaneously held his adoring crowd in contempt while feeding off of them, literally. Dora once proudly told Greg Noll that he never worked a day in his life! Dora was an accomplished Tennis player and a true athlete and sometime stunt double for several of the early '60s Hollywood beach flicks; who lived on the wealth of others. Notorious for ALWAYS biting the corporate hand that fed him; he held the ultimate belief that what he gave them far more than they could ever give him. Dark and handsome, poetic, swashbuckling, charming, caustic and ruthless he lived on hits wits. After 20 years dominating the Malibu waves and seeing the growing hoards of surfers crowding his waves he abandoned Southern California and disappeared. Wanted by the FBI and Surf journalists he played havoc with his fake personas and amateur sleuthery, living the life of an exiled nomad. Reportedly surfacing in South Africa, New Zealand and France as a Surf Bum, Con Artist and Snake Oil Salesman. On his Demise, his estate reportedly contained rare coins, stamps, bullion et al added up to $600,000! He who laughs last .......There has been a movie and several books about Dora all begging the Question WHY??? A bit about Greg Noll: Greg Noll earned the nickname "DA Bull" because of his size and his way of charging down the face of big waves. He was the first to ride the outside reef at Pipeline, Hawaii. During the 1969 season he rode Makaha on what was generally accepted to be the largest wave ever to be ridden (up to that time). He has been shaping surfboards since his youth and is still shaping re-creations of ancient surfboards. His first surf shop was in Hermosa Beach California and it is no exaggeration to say that he is one of the most influential surfers of all time and that his surfboards are amongst the most collectible.
