About the Item

A rare and stylish German Jugendstil silver plated golfer sculpture or trophy by renowned makers WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) and dating from around 1900. The sculpture portrays the figure of a man about to take a golfing shot and is mounted on a wooden turned column shaped base. The figure is well detailed and dressed in period costume and is mounted on an integral circular base. He holds his golfing club above his head with the ball at his feet. The sculpture is marked to the silver-plated base with O/X WMF I/O quality marks and is a fine quality novelty period example for which WMF was renowned. Provenance: acquired in the British art market. In good used condition with some natural silver tarnishing and some wear to the black finish on the wooden column shaped stand.
