We love tigers and all animals, and do not believe in killing any animals for any reason. This is an homage to the beloved tiger, legally acquired by the Count D'Quatro decades ago before the endangered classification; it is the finest specimen, beautifully preserved, and lovingly handled and respected, kept out of the light and traffic most of its life. A large super full body Van Ingen tiger skin rug with head mount, double lined in linen and felt. A fantastic original specimen with excellent color snarling dramatically by one of the best taxidermy firms in the world, label still intact and near perfect condition. Serial number consistent with the date of 1947-1957 as outlined in Dr. Pat Morris' study in the book Van Ingen Van Ingen artists in taxidermy. It has been a family treasure from 1960s until today. Labeled Van Ingen Van Ingen, Mysore. Dimensions: Head to tail: 132". Front leg spread: 89". Torso width: upper 53.5", middle 43.5", lower 58.5". Rear legs spread: 86.5" Legal vintage tiger skin rugs with head mounts are especially rare in fine color and detail not to mention quality and condition today. Van Ingen Mysore collectors and Mars Palm Beach EH wholly supports the conservation of all wild flora and fauna, acts against damage to the environment and the regulations put in place by the convention on international trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora banning the very serious trade of illegal animal products. Taxidermy is very much sculpture. At the turn of the century it was widely acceptable to hunt species such as the tiger and leopard. Hunting became stylish with the spread of the British Empire and was popular with Indian nobility and high ranking British officers; British royalty would even partake in hunts sending their trophies to taxidermists to have their work mounted such as the renowned Van Ingen Van Ingen of Mysore firm operating out of South India serving Maharaja’s and Royalty worldwide. Times have changed and today thankfully, all hunting is banned; although these wonderful creatures remain critically endangered. Memoirs of man's exploits remain in the form of mounts just as you would see in your local Museum, some fetching high value due to their condition, skill of preservation and historic significance but also reminding us of our past and the need for protection of today's animal species.
