About the Item
From the cabinet de curiosité of a Florentine amateur, pair of pedestal-mounted warthog tusks dating from the 18th century.
Africa has always fascinated explorers of all times, conditioning fashions and exoticism. Suffice it to say that in Florence, in 1775, the largest natural history collection in Europe, now known as La Specola, opened to the public, which gathered numerous specimens of African species. From Florence itself come our warthog tusks, the last part of the large collection of an Englishman, Florentine by adoption, who in the 18th century had created, inside his palace, an incredible colonial-themed cabinet de curiosité.
The tusks are still mounted on the original lacquered wooden pedestals. They retained the beautiful original patina.
