About the Item

A well observed taxidermy head and neck mount of a large adult Spotted Hyena (Crocuta crocuta), with glass eyes looking straight ahead. Makers mark on the reverse of the shield P.E, this refers to J.R.IVY (PTY) LTD High Art Taxidermists of Pretoria South Africa Circa 1940 in age, from the wall approx 44cm and 44cm in height, mounted upon a shaped African hardwood shield with a small numbered museum tag. The Hyena is in untouched country house condition with no visible restoration. Provenance: A Private Country House Collection in North Yorkshire

A rather curios Victorian diorama of "Jacko" the ratter c.1850, a plaster model of a terrier presented in a period glass dome mounted with its original ebonised stand.
