About the Item

A large and impressive pair of late 19th early 20th century Entomology specimen cases, containing a varied collection of over one hundred insects from around the world pinned to an eau-de-nil painted interior, including rhinoceros beetles, jewel beetles, grasshoppers, bees, moths etc. The specimens housed within matching oil gilt and ebonised wooden box framed single-glass display cases, the backs of the cases with the remnants of paper labels for ‘J T Stockall, Preservers of Birds, Beasts, Reptiles, Fish, Etc, Margaret St. Cavendish Sq, Corner of Gt. Titchfield St.’ Fading to gilt work with the odd loss and touch up, some minor damage to the specimens within a stray leg or two found at the bottom of the cases but overall in fantastic original condition. Each case is 71/35//9.5cm
