Petals, by Hasharat, is a contemporary natural history composition that merges scientific taxonomy with poetic visual symmetry. The work presents a kaleidoscopic arrangement of real butterfly specimens, meticulously composed to evoke the form of a flower in full bloom. Set against a deep black ground and housed in a minimalist frame, the butterflies appear suspended in perfect balance, emphasizing both their fragility and graphic power.
The composition features six species sourced from diverse geographic regions, each selected for color, scale, and pattern: Zavadilia magnifica (Madagascar), Hoplia coerulea (France), Morpho helenor (Peru), Asterope philotima (Peru), Cithaerias aurorina (Peru), and Polyommatus bellargus (France). Brilliant blues, soft translucencies, and subtle reds interact in a radial formation that recalls both botanical illustration and sacred geometry.
