About the Item
This M.P.B’s Silver Star briar pipe is a fine example of mid-20th century craftsmanship, produced in Italy. The pipe features a deeply rusticated bowl with pronounced carved ridges that give it a strikingly organic, textured appearance, contrasted by the smooth panel on the underside where the stamping is located. The shank bears the clear imprint “M.P.B’s Silver Star” along with the shape number 6094, a reference to its distinctive bent billiard form.
The vulcanite stem, slightly oxidized from age and use, is adorned with a white inlaid star, the hallmark of the Silver Star line. Its graceful bend complements the forward-leaning bowl, making for both an elegant and practical design that sits comfortably in the hand. The pipe shows signs of wear, particularly on the stem, but retains its original character and charm.
Pipes from the M.P.B. Silver Star series are considered collectible, particularly for enthusiasts of Italian pipes from the postwar period, when Italian makers began carving out their own identity in contrast to traditional English styles. This example, with its rugged rustication and bent profile, captures that spirit of individuality.
