About the Item

Rusticated briar pipe by Mastro de Paja, one of the most respected Italian pipe makers. Handcrafted in Pesaro, Italy, this example embodies the house’s dedication to artisanal tradition, as underlined by the “Fatta a Mano” (handmade) engraving on the shank. The pipe features a natural briar bowl with partial rustication at the heel, creating a striking contrast between the smooth grain and the textured finish. The bowl’s cylindrical form is paired with a slightly bent black acrylic stem, adorned with the trademark sunburst logoinlaid in gold, a symbol of the Pesaro workshop’s craftsmanship. The side of the shank bears the clear Mastro de Paja Pesaro stamp, along with the model designation. This piece is both elegant and functional, with a comfortable size for extended use and a tactile surface that enhances its character. The warm tones of the briar, highlighted by the interplay of smooth and rusticated finishes, make it a collectible of strong visual appeal. A fine example of mid-to-late 20th century Italian pipe making, this Mastro de Paja pipe would be an excellent addition to any collection of artisan briars.
