This sleek Art Deco shagreen cigarette case epitomizes the understated elegance and refinement of 1930s luxury design. With its thin, square silhouette, gilded interior, and simple elastic band to secure fine cigarettes, this piece captures the modern sophistication that defined the Art Deco era. The opening clasp bears an indistinct maker’s mark, hinting at a high-quality European origin.
The exterior is clad in a beautiful antique green shagreen, the distinctive textured skin of the stingray prized for its tactile, pebbled surface and subtle, organic sheen. Shagreen was one of the most coveted materials of the 1920s and 1930s, favored by luxury designers such as Jean-Michel Frank, Paul Iribe, and André Groult.
