About the Item

A striking cobalt blue cut-to-clear glass ashtray designed by Marita Voigt for VEB Glaswerk Harzkristall, East Germany, circa 1960s. This collectible example of East German art glass combines bold form with functional design, merging the spirit of mid-century modern with the playfulness of space age style. The ashtray is crafted in clear crystal, overlaid with deep cobalt glass, then wheel-cut to reveal a crisp polka dot pattern. This cut-to-clear technique highlights the contrast between the vibrant blue and the underlying crystal. A polished brass handle and cigarette rest, mounted under tension around the spherical form, complete the design, adding a warm metallic accent to the vivid glass. Dimensions: approx. 8.5 cm diameter, 8 cm height. Condition: very good vintage condition, the interior glass remains glossy and unused, while the brass shows only minor age-related patina and a small 1 mm spot of oxidation. A collectible piece of 1960s Harzkristall glass, reflecting the unique creativity of East German decorative arts. Ideal for collectors of mid-century glassware, German modernist design, and space age decorative objects.
