About the Item
Antique 14K yellow gold pipe cigar punch accessory with chain and key ring attached. Stamped "14K Tobias" and engraved "d.o."
This stylish gold cigar punch from the Art Deco era (ca1930s) is a signed piece by Tobias. Made of solid 14kt gold, the piece is a functioning cigar punch, which would originally have been worn as a fob hanging from a gentleman's watch chain. The sleek and stylish design has an elongated barrel shape ending in an open cap at the end. The punch mechanism can be pushed into the center, revealing a pointed tip blade that protrudes from inside the open cap at the end. The device is used to punch a small hole into the cap of the cigar. This method is considered less intrusive than using a traditional cigar cutter, because it leaves the cap mostly intact and therefore prevents bothersome unraveling of the wrapper. At the side of the barrel shaft is a hinged gold handle with a jump ring attachment, allowing the piece to be hung and worn from a chain. Both the handle and the exterior of the piece are stamped "14K," and the authentic Tobias signature can be found engraved at the top. An unusual piece by a legendary maker, it would make a very unique addition to any vintage collection!
