About the Item

This is without question a most unique Austrian silver cigarette case, the front of the case is decorated with a finely detailed road map in coloured enamels, against a white enamelled surface, commemorating 'The United Motor Car Columns of the K.U.K., Sud-Tirol 1916'. The opposite side of the case is plain silver without enamelling or decoration. The sprung lid opens to reveal a richly gilded interior bearing the signatures of the participants of the tour, as well as bearing impressed maker marks for noted Viennese silversmiths, Kurzer Wolf. The exterior bearing impressed Vienna assay marks silver marks denoting .900 silver fineness. In addition to its aesthetics, the case is also of considerable weight, weighing 170 grams or 5.46 troy ounces. The are a few minor surface stains on the interior which could be removed, but have been left untouched.
