About the Item
Shaped like a hot air balloon in miniature, this antique brass bird cage floats between function and ornament. This antique Indian brass bird cage is distinguished by its graceful Montgolfière, or hot air balloon, form and finely cast details. Slender vertical bars rise into a domed top with suspension loop, while the base rests on four ornate pierced feet with scrolling foliate motifs. The craftsmanship balances lightness and strength, giving the cage an elegant architectural presence.
Within, a central perch and two small feeding bowls remain, alongside the original hinged door with ring latch. The brass has acquired a time-worn patina, softening its surface and adding depth of character. Though originally intended for songbirds, the scale of the cage makes it more decorative today than functional.
Used in interiors, it becomes a versatile accent: styled with greenery or trailing plants, lit from within by a candle, or displayed on its own as a sculptural object. Its rounded form and rich patinated finish allow it to harmonize in both traditional and eclectic spaces, offering a touch of exoticism while reflecting the artistry of Indian metalwork.
