About the Item

These are a beautiful PAIR of good quality French Bookends of two metal bronzed swans on marble bases, dating to the Art Deco period, Circa 1930. Each swan has been well modelled with good detail and then cast in a metal, possibly spelter, having a bronzed finish. The bases are made of a lovely veined / mottled beige marble, all with slightly bevelled upper edges. Each bookend has a good weight of about 1 Kg unpacked and the undersides have the original applied felt paper which is very worn, reflecting the age and use of these pieces. The rear tail section of each Swan has "FRANCE" embossed into the casting, on the underside, as per the image. We date these pieces to the mid-20th century, circa 1930.
