About the Item

Enrobed in a delicious, rich caramel glaze, this set of whimsical yet dignified bookends depict a child knight, complete with helmet and shield, astride a donkey. The donkey is shown with forelegs braced and ears back, while his rider seems implacable and determined. The bookends were produced by the Richards Tile Company in Staffordshire, best known for a series of colorful Art Nouveau tiles in the early 20th century. These Art Deco sculptures are extremely rare and fine.
