A sculptural pair of Italian travertine bookends by Up
Up, circa 1970s, exemplifies the refined geometric minimalism characteristic of Italian modernist design. Each piece is carved from solid natural travertine with stepped, concentric interior grooves that form a semicircular motif when paired—recalling the architectural language of Angelo Mangiarotti and the carved stone detailing of Carlo Scarpa.
The honed stone surface reveals fossil inclusions and natural pitting, lending organic texture to the otherwise clean-lined modernist form. These functional sculptures serve equally well as bookends or as decorative objects, styled on a shelf, desk, or console.
