About the Item
Rare Cast Iron Foldable, Expandable Book Slide Attributed to Bradley
Hubbard Co, circa 1920s. A rare and highly distinctive vintage book slide dating to the 1920s, this foldable and expandable example features cast portrait plaques of Oliver Wendell Holmes on each side. Crafted in patinated iron with solid connecting rails, the book slide is in good vintage condition with light surface blemishes and expands smoothly to accommodate a growing library, combining functional design with period artistry. Each end panel displays a raised relief portrait of Holmes in profile, framed within a rectilinear architectural border and titled beneath, reflecting the early 20th century reverence for literary and scholarly figures. The warm, aged patina enhances the depth of the relief work and underscores the piece’s authentic vintage character. #4959RM
