About the Item
This dramatic pair of Art Deco bookends, each depicting a sailing ship racing through the sea with fully extended sails, was made by the famed Rookwood company in Cincinnati. Each piece is highly three-dimensional and enrobed in a lovely, ivory-hued glaze. Rookwood was the largest and most successful art pottery in America for several decades, producing artistic wares from the late 19th century into the 1950s. Best known for its Arts and Crafts pieces in the early 20th century, the company also produced fine Art Deco ware into the 1940s. These pieces are fully marked and dated 1934.
