About the Item
The bookends are a continuation of Tino Seubert's RCA graduation project The Colour of Air and were commissioned for Ma-tt-er's book launch at London Design Festival 2018. They are inspired by the aesthetics of air filters. Made from milled raw aluminium and rubber, they look like they have harvested air pollution and make it visible as black residue on their aluminium rods, where it is locked away and can't be touched.

Tino Seubert
Tino Seubert is a product designer based in London.
When he first made his now signature wicker and aluminium stools and benches in 2018 for a show at the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield, German-born (1986, Forchheim), London-based Tino Seubert found that they opened up a whole new design philosophy for him. They became the starting point for his future projects, which all revel in the juxtaposition of the organic and the industrial and enjoy the exploration of unconventional contexts. For Seubert, the organic is often a welcoming entry point into his work, with people from different countries drawn in by familiar traditional craft elements, only to be tantalised by the clash with sleek, precise industrial design. As a designer, he thrives off an energetic participation in the processes that go into making his pieces: whether it’s wood and stonework or metal machining, electronics or anodising aluminium by hand, Seubert is always obsessively engaged with the detail of his creations.

- Can be connected directly to an outlet box or fitted with a cable and regional plug to be plugged into a socket

The linear light and the wall pieces can be cut to length to fit any space and work harmoniously with their surroundings.
The sconce also comes in a shorter version - 2 corrugations long. Please find it in our other listing or get in touch for more information.
Created in collaboration with Theodora Alfredsdottir, “Corrugation” is a collection of lights inspired by midcentury furniture making, honouring the technique of veneer forming. It consists of a scalable hanging light and wall sconces, which can serve as building blocks to create unique combinations playfully spanning across whole rooms.
The collection takes veneer forming as a starting point, a process that requires skilled craftsmanship, which was introduced to the furniture world by design names like Alvar Aalto and the Eames couple, and pairs it with off-the-shelf aluminium tubes. A snug fit where the hard powder-coated metal meets the soft wavy wood...
