About the Item

Rare and boldly designed, this World War II-era bookend depicts, in high relief, a propellor airplane in the foreground and an airport radar tower behind, all executed in plaster or composite given a faux-mahogany finish. At the bottom of the bookend is an air force insignia -- a propeller merged with a pair of wings, an image that had been used by German and French militaries before being adopted by America. The bookend has a deep, rich reddish-brown color.
