About the Item
This lovely vintage miniature desk globe is a very eye-catching and pleasing piece that is tactile in the hand.
The globe is made from wood, and you can clearly see the natural grain showing through the paper map because of age-related shrinkage of the timber.
The map is made up traditionally in shaped segments and hand laid and glued onto the wooden sphere.
The globe sits on a turned ebony stand, which has a metal rod which passes through a hole in the globe and is held in place with a solid brass screw on a retaining cap, allowing the globe to rotate on its axis.
The ebony stand is beautifully hand turned, and the wood shows some natural shrinkage in the grain.
On the underside of the base, the ebony is stamped neatly with the words real ebony.
The globe is in good condition with some age-related patina and wear.
