Globo terrestre tedesco edito da Columbus Schulerglobus, cartografo prof Paul Oestergaard Berlin Stuttgart negli anni '50. Base in legno tornito completa del cerchio del meridiano inciso. Buono stato qualche segno di uso, ottima leggibilità. Altezza cm 30 – 11.7 inch, diametro sfera cm 18 – 7.1 inch. Curiosità Fondata nel 1909 a Berlino da Paul Oestergaard, nipote di Peter J. Oestergaard che produceva globi alla fine, la Columbus è la più antica casa costruttrice di globi, che lavora ancora oggi, al mondo. Durante più di un secolo la Columbus ha innovato l'industria della manifattura di globi e l'esperienza accumulata in 4 generazioni ha permesso alla Columbus di raggiungere lo status di principale produttore di globi del mondo. dell'800 Il primo globo terrestre di cui si ha notizia è quello attribuito da Strabone, storico e geografo, al greco Cratete di Mallo (c.a. 150 a.C.). I primi globi agli inizi del XVI sec. furono costruiti sotto la spinta delle grandi esplorazioni geografiche ed iniziarono da subito ad essere impiegati per scopi didattici presso corti principesche, monasteri e collegi; il globo comincia in seguito a conquistare gli ambienti universitari e le scuole superiori ed inferiori. Nel XVIII secolo, il geografo ufficiale di Luigi XV re di Francia, Didier Robert de Vaugondy, grazie alla pratica acquisita nella costruzione dei globi, ampliò l’articolo “Globe” dell’Encyclopédie illustrando dettagliatamente la distinzione tra un globo celeste (che rappresenta la superficie concava del cielo con le sue costellazioni) e un globo terrestre (che rappresenta invece la superficie della Terra con i mari, le isole, i fiumi, le città, ecc.) e le tecniche per realizzarli.
