About the Item

Crafted in France circa 1880, this tall and slender library ladder is made from solid pine and retains its warm, aged patina. Measuring 108 inches high, the piece features two sturdy side rails joined by ten flat, evenly spaced rungs, offering secure footing for reaching the tallest shelves or cabinets. Mortise-and-tenon joinery at each rung ensures stability, while the ladder’s narrow 17-inch profile allows it to fit gracefully against a bookcase or armoire without overwhelming the space. The back shows inset cut-outs, suggesting it was originally designed to hook or slide along a rail system in a grand library or retail setting.
