About the Item

A remarkable Louis XVI 18th-century French antique screen with an illustrious provenance, presumed to have belonged to the Duke of Uzès. This exquisite five-panel folding screen showcases hand painted oil on canvas artwork framed in gilded wood, exuding the opulence of the period. Each of the five vertical panels is beautifully hand-painted with intricate neoclassical motifs, while the smaller upper sections depict scenes from La Fontaine’s Fables, bringing a literary and artistic richness to the piece. The delicate detailing, elegant composition, and harmonious palette reflect the refined craftsmanship of the time. Adding to its historical significance, during the restoration of the screen, we discovered a card bearing the Duke of Uzès’ name, which we have carefully preserved inside, which supports our assumption that this piece had noble origins and was part of the Duke of Uzès' collection. In great vintage condition, this screen is a stunning decorative statement, perfect for collectors of fine antiques, French heritage pieces, or those seeking an elegant focal point for their interiors.
