About the Item
Japanese antique large Kimono display rack called "Iko", manufactured in circa 1910s -1930s (Taisho to early Showa period), estimate from the style
conditions.
With arched top rod, it looks similar form of Torii gate - which we can see in front of Shinto shrines - brings a genuine taste of Japanese culture to the space.
Iko is, basically Kimono hanger stand but traditionally, also used as a decorative room divider / partition with fabrics on it.
Especially, this one is larger than ordinary Iko, both width
height - Probably made as a display stand such as in Kimono seller shop, more than just a home use.
Original urushi lacquer remains well with slight wabi sabi touch.
Made with traditional wood joinery without metal fastener. Stable when placed, it's still durable enough for actual use.
Can be displayed on either side.
There're a few minor damages on this piece : Older bug damage area on the bottom bar, color faded spots on the panels, and the 2 cracks on the panels (showed on photos).
Any of them affect the actual use, but I'm able to repair these for free, by using matching antique/vintage wood, refinishing/ repainted with the same, traditional techniques as original.
It's free option, but takes extra handling time for repairing. If you consider to receive the repaired piece, Appreciate sending me the inquiry before your order.
