About the Item

Pair of wrought-iron screens with brown patina, designed by Jean Touret and made by the Atelier de Marolles, in good condition. The screen features a rectangular wrought-iron frame decorated in the Brutalist style and inspired by a bestiary of barnyard and savannah animals. Rooster, duck, pig, elephant, etc... It stands on 4 feet at the bottom corner of the frame, making it easy to move around. Jean Touret was a French sculptor and designer born in 1916 in Lassay-les-Châteaux, a small town west of Paris, and died in 2004. Touret began his career working for an insurance company, but soon developed a passion for art. After work, he took evening drawing classes to perfect his skills. After the war, he returned to France and opened his own studio, Atelier de Marolles. Over the years, he designed and produced numerous pieces, including tables, lamps and sideboards. Touret also worked in metal, designing screens in zinc and copper. He is also known for having designed the monumental bronze altar for Notre-Dame, installed in 1981.
