About the Item
Elegant 19th-century Belgian tilt-top table featuring a romantic tapestry panel framed in richly grained mahogany. The finely carved tripod base with acanthus leaf details evokes refined Victorian craftsmanship, while the hand-woven tapestry of a courting couple adds warmth and charm to any interior.
This exquisite 19th-century Belgian table is a rare example of functional art, combining romantic textile work with fine cabinetmaking. The rectangular tilt-top features a detailed tapestry depicting a courting couple in a pastoral setting, bordered by a beautifully curved mahogany frame with delicate beading. The tapestry surface can be displayed upright like a decorative screen or tilted flat for use as a small occasional table.
The base rests on a turned mahogany pedestal with carved acanthus leaves and elegant cabriole legs ending in scrolled feet, characteristic of late-Victorian and Biedermeier influences. The craftsmanship and patina suggest a date around 1870-1890.
This versatile piece serves beautifully as a decorative accent, firescreen, or occasional table. A wonderful statement item for collectors of romantic or Biedermeier décor.
