About the Item
For sale is a fine and rare large Victorian rosewood screen, having an ornately carved top, above embroidery, depicting a dog jumping up at a parrot on a perch, with two other small birds on the perch beside it another dog lies on the base of the perch, on the left, holding a feather in its mouth, its paw on a sealed letter after Landseer. 1851. The parrots stand and chain are all in bead work. A print of this picture is owned by the British museum and has the following inscription: Inscription type: inscription
Inscription content: Lettered below the image with the title, around a crest, and dedication 'by Royal Command', of the 'Engraving from the Picture painted in 1839', from the publisher to the Queen, and 'Painted by Sir Edwin Landseer, R.A. // Engraved by W.T. Davey. // Printed by J. Brooker // London, Published May 24th, 1851, by Thomas Mc.Lean, 26, Haymarket, Paris, Goupil

Mixed method.
The screen stands on ornately carved feet and is in excellent condition for its age. The previous owners of the screen claim that this piece was purchased from a private collection near Balmoral. We believe this piece may have been made for The Great Exhibition of 1851.
