About the Item

This beautiful 19th century rectangular mantel screen in stained wood attributed to Gabriel Viardot, showcases exquisite craftsmanship typical of his work. It is carved with a dragon on the left, open work scrolls in the sino japanese style on the right and in the belt on a curved cornered base forming ornate claw feet. The centerpiece is an exquisite and delicate embroidery in dyed silk that features embroidered birds and butterflies on a leafy background. This unique piece highlights the elegance and artistry of Viardot characteristic of 19th-century French decorative arts, reflecting both beauty and functionality as a partition or decorative piece.
