This is an antique fireside pole screen. An English, rosewood and needlepoint tapestry adjustable shield, dating to the William IV period, circa 1835. Excellent William IV craftsmanship, offering ideal decoration for the fireside Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order Select stocks show fine grain interest and deep russet hues Quality needlepoint set within a shield-shaped frame Riser pole adorned with a small carved finial, set within a brass collar Distinctive frame, pinched to corners and centre with scroll shell relief Panel embroidered with a foliate bouquet, in subtle pastel hues Dressed to rear with light yellow silk cotton, accentuated with brocade trim Adjustable screen height, can be set within a range of 83cm (32.75") Moves up and down upon a pair of sliding brass collars Pole set within a tapering gadrooned mount above a striking petal base Standing upon a trio of shaped bracket feet with turned-up toes This is a charming antique fireside pole screen. Quality stocks and traditional needlepoint present superbly. Delivered ready for the fireplace.
