About the Item
An antique Indian Anglo-Raj period, circa 1900 six-panel carved wooden screen featuring painted calligraphic inscriptions and floral motifs. Each tall, narrow panel - measuring 19" W each - is crafted in wood and decorated with richly painted cartouches, where stylized script in gold is set against a red ground, framed with blue borders and surrounded by scrolling foliate designs. The interplay of calligraphy and ornament creates a striking visual rhythm, showcasing the artistry and symbolic resonance characteristic of Indian craftsmanship.
The screen is now composed of six individual panels, some joined and others loose, allowing for versatile use. They may be displayed together as a unified composition, mounted on a wall as architectural elements, or adapted into a functional divider if desired. With traces of age, use, and original polychrome, the surface bears a patina that enhances the historic presence of the piece.
Whether placed as a decorative focal point, integrated into a wall scheme, or incorporated into a larger design project, this antique screen offers scale, texture, and cultural resonance suited to both residential and gallery settings.
