About the Item

A four-panel screen that offers two moods in one piece: golden mosaic on one side, inky velvet on the other. Hand-gilt metal frames hold square tiles of gold leaf that have mellowed into warm notes of saffron, russet, and olive—a natural patina earned over decades. Flip the panels and you’ll find black velour embroidered with a crisp Greek-key maze for a quieter, graphic look. Brass piano hinges let the screen bend smoothly into a gentle zig-zag. At over 60" height it works as a room divider, headboard, or architectural anchor. Designed at the height of ’70s French modernism, it nods to Art Deco geometry while feeling fresh and sculptural today. Sourced in Paris. - Materials that matter Each square is real gold leaf, hand-applied and left to develop the soft saffron-to-russet patina collectors prize. The reversible back is upholstered in black velour with an embroidered Greek-key maze, a very David Hicks inspired moment —two completely different looks in one piece. - Scale presence Standing 65.5" H × 74" W (fully open), the screen functions like portable architecture, instantly anchoring a seating group or creating a private dressing area. - Craftsmanship you can feel The gilt-metal frame is mitered and pinned like fine jewelry; full-length piano hinges allow a perfectly fluid fold. *Style Notes:* Place it behind a velvet sofa for a golden glow, or angle it in a corner to turn negative space into a sculptural moment. Watch it glow as daylight gives way and watch it deepen to a rich bronze after dusk -and finish the moment with candles lit nearby on an occasional table or pedestal. Condition: Great vintage condition. The surface shows a patina throughout, with areas of burnishing and tonal variation consistent with age and use. The reverse velour side is intact with light surface wear. All four panels are structurally sound and hinged properly. Includes original hardware; no missing components observed.
