About the Item

Art deco room divider by Jomaine Baumann for S.N.S.A., France, 1940s. Constructed from patinated pine using a flexible tambour technique with narrow wooden slats joined by metal wire. The divider features a scalloped top edge and can be arranged in curved, folded, or extended configurations. Suitable for use as a functional room divider or freestanding interior element. Jomaine Baumann was a French furniture designer active in the mid-20th century, best known for his flexible wooden room dividers and screens produced from the 1930s through the 1950s. Working primarily in pine, Baumann developed tambour-style constructions that allowed screens to be curved or reconfigured, combining practical function with restrained sculptural form. His room dividers are now considered representative examples of French Art Deco–influenced interior design.
