About the Item

A rare Heal's limed oak and glazed four-panel folding screen room divider. Circa 1920's. The screen is of superb quality and construction. Note the leather in between the hinged panels, ensuring no visible gaps and giving a seamless appearance. Made in quarter sawn oak, showing the lovely medullary rays in the wood, with the original limed finish. Overall in very good condition. Showing some light signs of use. One side (as illustrated in photograph number 11) shows two outer panels being of very slightly darker colour. This is where the screen has been stored when not in use. The upper panels have clear glass. There is no damage to these. There are some light scuff marks in places. There is no maker's label, but the construction and design are consistent with Heal's furniture produced during this period. The folding panels all work well on their hinges. Photograph number 1 shows the screen at 137cm wide. The screen is very heavy.
