About the Item

Three panel folding room divider depicting "The Siege of La Rochelle" by Jacques Callot (1592-1635). The siege took place from 1627-1628. Callot depicts the landscape, fortifications, naval battleships and infantry. The text on the reverse side is in French and Latin principally naming the locations and ships coinciding with the front images. The prints have been applied by hand, in the decoupage manner, to decorate the room divider, which is made of canvas covered wood. Signed in the print plate lower right corner, Jac Callot Fec. Good overall condition with overall wear and darkening of the images and panels due to age and use. The old paper and varnish is applied. to a wood and canvas substrate that has darkened from age and the elements. This gives it a wonderful old and weathered appearance. Some minor losses, scratches, staining and abrasions. Some frayed corners end edges. Good old patina. The approximate measurements are 53" wide when fully open and extended x 66" high x 18.13" deep. The approximate dimensions when fully closed are 2.5" deep.
