About the Item
Fantastic mid-century modern Italian four panel double sided screen featuring painted trompe l'oeil decoration and applied decoupage art motifs of paintings. Constructed from wood panels with painted architectural detailing and framing. The panels are embellished with applied decoupage paintings in frames of landscapes, botanicals, portraits, and ornaments in the neoclassical and Victorian taste. The lower portions of the screen have faux paneling framed borders. The opposite side features a painted French street scene of late 19th century with carriages and a hot air balloon. The painted city scape uses light and muted paint tones. The screen has good construction and joinery with a desirable distressed finish on the finish commensurates age and use. The decoupage pictures are probably older than the screen appearing to be 19th century and older. Wonderful conversation piece with a continental aesthetic. From an estate in Beverly Hills, California.
